Sustainable Rural Initiatives Technical and Vocational College exists to provide community-centred technical training that helps learners acquire useful, marketable and income-generating skills.

The college focuses on four core training areas: ICT, Carpentry, Tailoring and Agriculture. These programmes are designed to support employability, entrepreneurship, innovation and sustainable rural development.

SRI TVC combines classroom learning with hands-on practice, mentorship, community projects and enterprise thinking so that learners can apply their skills beyond training.

The ICT programme prepares learners to use computers and digital tools confidently for education, office work, communication, entrepreneurship and access to information.

In rural communities, ICT skills open doors to employment, online services, business records, digital communication and continued learning.

Carpentry Department

Hands-on woodwork for construction and enterprise

The Carpentry programme equips learners with practical woodwork skills that can support employment, self-employment and local production of furniture and household items.

Learners are introduced to workshop safety, accurate measurement, tool handling, joinery, finishing and the discipline needed to produce quality work.

Workshop Safety; Safe use of tools, materials and protective practices.

Measurement; Marking, cutting, accuracy and material planning.

Joinery; Basic joints, assembly, strengthening and finishing.

Enterprise; Costing, customer orders, repairs and small carpentry businesses.

Tailoring Department

Garment-making skills for income and creativity

The Tailoring programme supports learners to gain practical sewing and garment-making skills that can lead to self-employment, small business development and local service provision.

Training focuses on machine handling, stitching, measurements, pattern work, garment construction, repairs and customer-focused tailoring services.

Machine Operation; Basic sewing machine use, care and safe handling.

Measurements; Taking body measurements and preparing simple patterns.

Garment Construction; Cutting, stitching, finishing and quality control.

Agriculture Department

Sustainable farming for food security and livelihoods

The Agriculture programme is rooted in the realities of rural communities such as Okana, where agriculture remains central to livelihoods, food production and resilience.

Learners gain practical knowledge in sustainable agriculture, kitchen gardens, poultry, farm records, value chains and entrepreneurship so they can improve productivity and income.

Sustainable Farming; Soil health, ecological practices and responsible land use.
