Building Smarter, Sustainable Farms: Farmers Champion Ecological Agriculture and Record Keeping

“Nature knows best.” That was the guiding principle as local farmers gathered at SRI’s center in Okana for an intensive multi-day workshop dedicated to sustainable agro-ecological practices and farm business management.

Day 1: Ecological Farming Practices
Participants explored how regenerative permaculture techniques and circular economy principles work hand-in-hand to supercharge natural soil fertility, strengthen plant vitality, and eliminate reliance on expensive synthetic inputs. From indigenous seed preservation to organic soil feeds, farmers observed direct methods to build self-sustaining farm ecosystems.

Day 2: Data-Driven Farming & Inventory Control
The focus shifted from soil to bookkeeping. Farmers were trained in practical record keeping, establishing realistic farm inventories, tracking seasonal crop yields, and calculating margins. By replacing guesswork with reliable numbers, farmers are empowered to make strategic, data-driven decisions that ensure their homesteads thrive.

Goals for Equality: Ranjira FC Crowned Champions of the 9th SRI Annual Football Tournament 2025!

More than just a game of goals and tactical plays, sport serves as a powerful bridge within our societies—a vibrant platform where young people build lifelong relationships, showcase raw talent, and actively shape community life. Nowhere was this spirit more evident than at the 9th edition of the SRI Annual Football Tournament.

Held between December 15th and 18th at the Nyakakana Secondary School grounds, the 2025 tournament brought together teams across the region, including Mbega FC, Miguye Warriors FC, FC Munich, Nyakakana FC, Zungu FC, Kianja FC, and Kamyog FC. After a series of thrilling, hard-fought matches that kept spectators on the edge of their seats, Ranjira FC rose to the occasion to claim ultimate victory as the 2025 Champions!

Under this year’s official theme, “Goals for Equality,” the tournament tackled essential community priorities alongside grassroots sports:

  • Free Community Medical Camp: Run across the final two days in partnership with Lisa Hospital, providing direct health screenings and check-ups for rural families.
  • Sanitary Towel Distribution: Promoted menstrual equity and health dignity for adolescent girls in partnership with Feminists in Kenya and the Global Fund for Women.
Congratulations to Ranjira FC and every athlete, partner, and community supporter who made this year’s tournament an unforgettable success!
