Vera Atieno Owiti
Ms. Vera Atieno Owiti is a co-founder, Secretary, and Executive Director of SRI.
As CEO, she provides leadership and strategic direction for the organization, ensures the implementation of activities, and is responsible for the daily management of the organization. She holds a Masters in Philosophy in Education from NLA University College, Bergen, Norway, and a Bachelor of Education from Moi University, Kenya. Before this, she was a secondary school teacher for over 5 years.
Archilles Nyakwaka
Archilles has been the SRI Program Manager (Administration and Finance) since September 2017. He has a vast experience in Administration and Finance Management. Before joining Sustainable Rural Initiatives (SRI), he had served Administrative Officer at Kisony Welfare Group (KIG). He is responsible for the administration of human resources and finances of SRI and also the implementation of SRI administration and organizational policies. Before this, he served as a Field Assistant at the Kenya Biogas Program. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Public Administration from Moi University, a Diploma in Accountancy from Kenya Polytechnic College, and a Certified Secretary (CS). He also took a course for a certificate in Protecting Life in Global Health Assistance and Statutory Abortion Restrictions – USAID & Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
James Ogutu Odhiambo
James is the Project Coordinator at SRI. He joined SRI in September 2018 to establish the Project Coordination Office. He is responsible for initiating new projects, developing project proposals, managing and reporting on ongoing projects, representing SRI in project-related forums, and engaging with partner organizations in the respective projects. James holds a BSc. In Human Resource Management from Moi University, a Professional Certification in Monitoring and Evaluation from Kenya Institute of Management, Certified Ethical conduct for research involving humans (TCPS 2: CORE 2022); trained Open Data Leader by Open Institute, Certified Quality Rights by WHO, and trained Paralegal in Child Safeguarding and Protection by SOS Children’s Villages Kenya. James is a data enthusiast, with experience in Project Management and Coordination (Health, Education, Leadership, and Governance), M&E, Resource Mobilization, Advocacy & Policy Formulation. This is supported by a demonstrated history of working on previous related projects supported by different funders. James has supported 10+ local youth-led/youth-serving organizations to develop robust strategies that are community-led and community-centered, attracting local and international support.
George Omondi Ochuka
George is the longest-serving staff at SRI having been the first to be appointed in 2013 at the onset of the organization. For over one year, he was the only staff responsible for SRI activities. He played a key role in the establishment of the SRI Carpentry Workshop and the construction of the SRI Resource Centre. Currently, he oversees the running of the SRI Carpentry Workshop and the Logistical requirements of the organization. In this position, he coordinates SRI cooperation with Tools to Work, Netherlands, which involves arranging the clearance of containers and bringing in training equipment. He is also responsible for regular repairs and maintenance of SRI facilities. He has certificates and hands-on training in Water drilling, well design, hygiene and sanitation, Pump repair and maintenance, bio-sand filtration, permaculture, and training in health by USAID & John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Before joining SRI, he served as the chief driller in Life Water International and G.W.A.K.O Ministries.
Richard Ogutu Osimbo
Richard heads the Security department at SRI and is thus responsible for ensuring the safety of SRI premises and staff. He joined SRI in 2017 after a long stint with several other security firms including Metro Security Firm, Wamoto Security Company, Polea Security Company, JRS Security Company and Riley Falcon Security Farm. He has consistently ensured that SRI is safe and accommodative to all stakeholders and also ensured the safety of the organization.
Domnic Outa Olango
Domnic Outa Olango joined SRI in 2021 as a farm attendant, a positon he holds to date. Domnic is in charge of the day to day management of the farm and performs tasks like seeding, weeding, watering, planting, harvesting, processing produce, compositing and pruning. Prior to his engagement at SRI, he worked with SANA which dealt with constructing pit latrines using interlocking, bricks.

Benjamin Omondi Aono
Mr. Benjamin Omondi Aono joined SRI in the year 2021 as a farm assistant. Together with the farm attendant, he is responsible for the day to day management of the farm. Some of the tasks he is engaged in include: seeding, planting, watering, weeding, and harvesting. He has vast experience in farm management and worked for individuals in Kangundo, Nairobi, Kisii and Kisumu.
Eunice Anyanga
Eunice Anyanga is currently a student at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology pursuing a course in Bachelor of Arts in Development and Policy Studies. She is an attachee at the Sustainable Rural Initiative (SRI). Her role at SRI involves working across all departments. Eunice is driven by a passion for applying the knowledge she has acquired in school to real-world situations to impact the lives of people living in rural areas.
Edwina Abuya
Edwina Abuya is a volunteer at SRI within the Department of Community Health, Library Services, and Youth in Action in the organization. She has an interest in working with the community in the health sector, impacting the health and educational lives of pupils and students in the community. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work from Moi University.
Movin Atieno
Movin Atieno volunteers at Sustainable Rural Initiatives in the Department of Community Health, Youth in Action, and Library Services. She is passionate about promoting the health and well-being of community members through various health talks and awareness creation. She is a graduate of Great Lakes the University of Kisumu with a Diploma in Community Health and Development.
Faith Nallec
Faith Nallec is attached to the SRI organization working under the departments of Youth in Action, Community Health, and Skills Development. Currently, she is a student at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Development and Policy Studies. Ever since an early age Faith has always had a passion for development and creating impact in the community through the use of youth, women, children, and the elderly.
