Dr. Otieno Jowi

Dr. Otieno Jowi

Dr. James Otieno Jowi is the Founder of SRI. He established SRI out of the desire to give back to his rural community and use the potentials of knowledge and skills in societal transformation. Dr. Jowi grew up and still lives in Okana village where SRI is located. He currently works at the East African Community where he has been heading the education sector and currently is the Deputy Executive Secretary of the East African Kiswahili Commission, located in Zanzibar. He is also the founder of the African Network for Internationalization of Education (ANIE) and was a Senior Lecturer of Comparative and International Education at the School of Education, Moi University, Kenya. He holds PhD in Higher Education Policy Studies (University of Twente, Netherlands) a Masters in Comparative and International Education (University of Oslo, Norway), a Masters in Linguistics and Bachelor of Education (Moi University, Kenya). He was a student leader at the University of Oslo, Norway, and Moi University, Kenya. He has published extensively on higher education in Africa and sits in the boards of several organizations.

Belinda Awuor Nyakinya

Belinda Awuor Nyakinya is currently working for the City of Kisumu, County Government of Kisumu as Acting Director of Environment charged with overseeing operations in solid waste management, urban aesthetics, Environmental Planning and Management, development and enforcement of environmental policies and regulation and Team leader of environmental components at Kisumu urban project (KUP), this is an urban development program financed by AFD. I was born in Kisumu, Kenya in 1982, I have a degree in Environmental Studies (Science) from Kenyatta University, Masters degree in Environmental Management for Sustainable Development from Tongji University, China (UNEP-Institute of Environment for Sustainable Development) (IESD) and I am currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Environmental Science, from Tongji University. I am a registered NEMA EIA Lead expert and have a lot of experience in environmental governance. My research interest is in Municipal Solid Waste Management and Wastewater Treatment and management, Eco-Tourism and environmental conservation for Local Economic Development, and urban agriculture for improved food security. I offer advisory services to many environmental-based organizations and I believe that making the world a better place begins with one step that you make towards your vision, taking note of Collaboration, Expertise, and transformative leadership to ensure sustainability.

Vera Atieno Owiti

Vera Atieno Owiti

Ms. Vera Atieno Owiti is the Executive Director of SRI. As CEO, she provides leadership and strategic direction for the organization, ensures the implementation of activities and is responsible for the daily management of the organization. She currently pursuing a PhD in Sociology of Education at Moi University, Kenya. She holds a Masters in Philosophy in Education from NLA University College, Bergen, Norway and a Bachelor of Education from Moi University, Kenya. Prior to this, she was a secondary school teacher for over 5 years.

Paschalia Ndungwa Ouma

Paschalia Ndungwa Ouma

Paschalia Ndungwa Ouma is a Director, Technical Training, Innovations and Social Services in Country Government of Kisumu. In this directorate she is in charge of all public Vocational Training Centers and the most vulnerable groups in the county including the elderly, children and persons living with disabilities (PWDs). This directorate is domiciled in the department of Education in the county. She has previously taught in Kisii University, Kenya for over 10 years, Makerere University Uganda Kampala International University, Uganda and Strathmore University, Kenya. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Government and Public Administration, from Moi University, Kenya, a Masters in Computer Science from Makerere University, Uganda and is undertaking a Ph.D. in Management Information Systems in Kisii University, research area is in Systems Quality.

Rachel Wangu Mutua

Rachel Wangu Mutua

Wangu is a Kenyan living and working in Kenya. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Moi University and a Master’s Degree in Project Planning and Management from Maseno University. She has for over 10 years been working with communities living within the Lake Victoria Basin in East Africa through Vi Agroforestry where she works as a Deputy Programme Director. Her passion has been ensuring better lives for rural communities while ensuring gender equity. Women and children issues in rural development are key areas she is largely interested in.

Mr. Dickson Awuonda

Mr. Dickson Awuonda

Mr. Dickson Awuonda is the current head teacher of Ranjira primary school. He is the secretary at Winam Water Resource Users Association (WRUA). He is also teacher representative in the Kisumu Teachers Burial & Benevolent Fund. Mr. Dickson is also involved in Church activities as an elder at Rabuour SDA church. He holds a diploma in education, currently, he is a Bed student at Kenyatta University.

Martin Obiende Owidi

Martin Obiende Owidi

Mr. Martin Obiende Owidi has worked in health services management for over twenty years, currently at Maseno University Health Services. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from Maseno University, a Diploma in Health Care Management from Kenya Institute of Management, Certificate in Health Records and Information Technology from Kenya Medical Training College. He has held the position of the National Vice Chairman of the Kenya Universities Staff Union and is currently the Board Chairman of Nyakakana Secondary School. At SRI he heads the Youth in Action subcommittee. Mr. Owidi is a Human rights crusader, a believer in Gender Mainstreaming, and likes to help the underprivileged in our Society. At the local level, he has initiated and participated in various development issues.

John Oriwa Otura

John Oriwa Otura

Mr. John Oriwa Otura is the Treasurer and is responsible for oversight of resource allocation, budgeting, management of finances and the prudent utilization of funds for the implementation of activities. He holds a Post-graduate Diploma in Education from Maseno University and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Nairobi. He has been a secondary school teacher for the past twenty years and is involved in several community educational projects.

Elijah Ajode Osodo

Elijah Ajode Osodo

Elijah has heard long career at the National Police service in Kenya. Currently, he is a retired AIG (Assistant Inspector General) at the National Police Service (NPS). Before working at AIG he was the Commanding Officer Rapid Deployment Unit. His career started when he joined the national youth service training college. He has been awarded various awards: Distinguish Service medal (2001); Moran of the Burning Spear (2010). He is married and also participates in many community activities.

Richard Olewe Kameda

Richard Olewe Kameda

Mr. Richard Olewe Kameda is currently a private healthcare practitioner and consultant in Health System Management. He has vast experience in public health management spanning more than 30 years. He has worked in both public and private sectors in Kenya. He served in the Ministry of Health (Kenya) for over sixteen (16) years. International NGO (IRC) as primary health care adviser and trainer. Kenyan NGO (MSI) as Regional manager and national innovative project manager. He is a scholar of Public Health and Development (Management of Health Systems option). A holder of a higher Diploma in Medical Training, Research and Education, Diploma in Kenya Registered Nursing (KRN), Kenya Registered Mental Health (KRMN), and Kenya Registered Obstetrics and Midwifery (KRM).
